Kelly Hora Acupuncturist, MAc MS
Thank you for your interest in acupuncture! I am a National Board Certified and Wisconsin State Licensed Acupuncturist.
I discovered acupuncture when I was a student/athlete in graduate school. I was amazed that acupuncture helped me recover from an acute ankle sprain and also lightened my depression. After several years of rewarding work as an ecologist, I decided to shift gears and apply the holistic principles of my scientific training to helping people improve their health. I completed my Master Degree (approx. 3000 hours of training) in Acupuncture from the Maryland University of Integrative Health and launched Bluestem Acupuncture in 2003.
I offer an integrative approach to healthcare; in addition to my private practice I see patients at the Carbone Cancer Center and UW at The American Center as part of the UW Integrative Health Program.
My practice specializes in emotional, mental and physical health. Support for clients with anxiety, depression, trauma relief and addiction recovery has been widely recognized and compliments traditional psychotherapeutic and counseling work. I also focus on internal medicine, acute and chronic pain, and pre and post surgery care. Acupuncture, cupping gua sha, diet and lifestyle education are all used to assist the healing process.
My collaborative instincts bring people together through professional development and public health outreach. I served two terms as president of the Wisconsin Society of Acupuncturists (WISCA), and continue as legislative committee chair and state representative to the American Society of Acupuncturists. I am an eager public speaker, honored have been an invited speaker by the Governor's Task Force on Opioid Abuse to share evidence supporting acupuncture as an alternative to opioids for pain management. Engaging in healthcare policy as an advocate for patient safety and access to acupuncture is an ongoing commitment.
Public health outreach activities include volunteering with Global Outreach Doctors, medical team offering humanitarian support to Syrian refugees in Lesvos, Greece and founding the Madison Veteran's Project, which offered free, community-style acupuncture to veterans and their families to help them alleviate the symptoms of acute stress and trauma.
Let's connect!
In Health,
